"MONSTERS OF ROCK - LIVE AT DONINGTON 1980"
On Saturday, 16th August 1980 'Rainbow' entered the stage as the head liner of the first big festival in Castle Donington. It was the highlight of the tour for their greatly successful 1979 album "Down To Earth" as well as the last show of the legendary line-up with Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Don Airey (keyboard), Graham Bonnet (vocals), Roger Glover (bass) and Cozy Powell (drums). The set list included some songs of the new album plus earlier classics by the band like 'Stargazer', 'Long Live Rock'n'Roll' or 'Catch The Rainbow'. Additionally there were virtuous solo spots for Blackmore, Airey and Powell, which unambiguously demonstrated the extraordinary great musical potential of this band. At the end of this furious show Ritchie Blackmore destroyed his guitar and rammed it into the amps, whereupon marvellous fireworks ended the (in every sense!) explosive concert.
