Foo Fighters Merchandise, CDs and Vinyl

When Nirvana drummerDave Grohl founded Rock group Foo Fighters in 1994, many doubted he could step out of the shadow of his former band. Grohl had already written songs during Nirvana's existence, but they never found their way into the Grunge icons' repertoire. After Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain's tragic death, Dave Grohl at first tried it as a solo artist by releasing the album „Foo Fighters“ in 1995. It immediately charted in the US, but in order to promote it on tour, Grohl eventually recruited other musicians and took the name Foo Fighters. In the following years, the line-up changed while the albums „The Colour And The Shape“ and „There Is Nothing Left To Lose“ came out. Songs like „Everlong“ or „Learn To Fly“ became great successes. „There Is Nothing Left To Lose“ was awarded with a Grammy for the best Rock album in 2001 and contained two hit singles, „Learn To Fly“ and „Breakout“. At the turn of the century, Grohl focused on his Heavy Metal project Probot, so the release of the fourth album „One By One“ featuring guest guitarist Brian May from Queen was delayed until 2001. Foo Fighters invited another prominent musician for their double album „In Your Honor“, namely former Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones.

After dominating the 2008 Brit Awards and Grammys with the album “ Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace“ as well as the accompanying single „The Pretender“, Grohl announced a ten-year hiatus for Foo Fighters.   However, not coming up with a surprise would have been very unlike them, so in 2011, they unleashed the album „Wasting Light“ and the documentary „Back And Forth“. We hope the story of Foo Fighters will go on for quite some time. Also in 2011, the limited album „Medium Rare“ came out to celebrate Record Store Day. It featured cover versions of songs by Hüsker Dü, Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy and Cream. Videos have always been important for Foo Fighters. They often contain curious elements or appearances of guest stars. One example is the clip for the single „Big Me“, a parody of the famous Mentos spot, which led fans to throw the candy at Grohl during concerts for a long time afterwards. For the single „Learn To Fly“, Tenacious D were invited, and in the clip for „White Limo“, you can see Motörhead legend Lemmy Kilmister.

The style of Foo Fighters is often said to be strongly reminiscent of Nirvana's. Grohl himself admitted that Cobain was an important influence on his own songwriting, not least with respect to his former band leader's appreciation of beauty in musical minimalism. In their songs, Foo Fighters set calm verses against loud choruses.   On the album „Sonic Highways“, the Foos were in great shape as usual. The tracks push you forward and are immediately accessible – hand-crafted Rock beyond competition. As before with „Wasting Light“, Foo Fighters produced another documentary titled „Sonic Highways“, which received support from cable channel HBO. Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett are great musicians – simple as that.
