One of the most influential bands of the 1990s, Nirvana emerged as part of the Seattle grunge scene alongside the likes of Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Their groundbreaking mixture of punk rock and heavy metal took the music world by storm, and Nirvana quickly became the poster child for the grunge scene. Just listen to the unmistakeable sounds of "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Come As You Are", "Heart-Shaped Box", "In Bloom", "Lithium" or "Polly" and you can see exactly why.

From the moment that Dave Grohl joined the lineup in 1990, Nirvana were on the fast track to fame. By 1992 they were headlining the closing night of Reading Festival in a performance widely regarded as the stuff of legend, and a key moment in rock history as Nirvana played what was tragically to be their last performance on British soil. Check out Nirvana: Live at Reading on DVD, CD or vinyl to relive this incredible performance. In 1993, the band proved they could just as easily kill it doing an acoustic set at an intimate venue, taping a stunning 14-song acoustic set in one take for MTV. Witness this musical landmark with the Nirvana: Unplugged in New York DVD or recreate it in crystal-clear quality with the CD and vinyl versions.

Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl were often misunderstood in their time, perhaps under too much pressure and too successful too fast. But even after the suicide of singer and band leader Kurt Cobain in 1994, the music created by Nirvana still moves old and young alike - the mark of true music legends. 20 years after Cobain's death, Nirvana were rightfully inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2014. Drummer Dave Grohl has gone on to become one of the biggest rock stars of our time, enjoying huge success with Foo Fighters, whom Novoselic has played and recorded with on occasion alongside other projects.

Nirvana's star shone bright and all too briefly, but their legacy lives on. Grab some Nirvana merchandise and help keep it going.
