by Matthias Mineur (20.01.2006) After Sepultura drew their inspirations for their 1996-masterpiece “Roots” of the Xavante-Indians on the border between Brazil and Bolivia, they now, exactly one decade later, set the book “Divina Comedia“ of the late Medieval Italian poet and philosopher, Dante Aligherie to music. Like Dante in his book also Sepultura head for a journey through the three dominions of death and cross hell, purgatory and paradise. All this in a very heavy metallic way, of course, meaning a mixture of metal, hardcore, thrash and punk. Especially singer Derrick Green uses the classic script. Although he again maltreats his harsh voice to all limits, the Dante material also offers him the opportunity to sing in the traditional sense. Assisting that approach, also Andreas Kisser (g), Paulo Xisto (b) and Igor Cavalera (dr) experiment with violins and horns - without forgetting to be driven forward by lots of power, of course.
