"Nordlys" CD by Midnattsol

by Markus Eck (14.01.2008) It's been some time that this second album of the Nordic Folk-Metallers has finally been accomplished but now, the successor to the 2005-debut was finally finished. While already the first album of the band was bursting with gracefully atmospheric passages, also "Nordlys" predominantly presents Midnattsol from this side of theirs. They are fast, instrumentally much more demanding and with more complex compositions, and yet, at the same time also more playful and more melodic. Also the arrangements of their songs have been structured more varied which proves the progression of the German-Norwegian aesthetes. Even Carmen Elise Espenaes, the little sister of Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull, too, worked hard on her vocal range: she sings the variable compositions on "Nordlys" with immense passion and has every note under control. This way, like on the debut album, the lyric, romantic passages can fully unfold.
