by Markus Eck (27.09.2007) If a lively six-piece band from history charged Denmark enthusiastically devotes to traditionally stamped Folk Metal, a great album, like "Ravnenes saga" is the result. The title refers to Odin's ravens, Hugin and Munin. Svartsot was formed in 2005, first as a pure Metal band – a fact that the ten new, highly epic songs greatly build upon: none of them lacks in power and edginess. With blasting, warrior-like Death growls, two heavy, electric guitars, flute, mandolin, bass guitar, and wild drumming, the six Danes create their truly heroic Heathen hymns. They are at their best whenever these playful musicians allow their liking for faster performances full bent. Also, their instinctive sense for catchy melodies always fits this Folk Metal-horde best when they become nicely catchy and solemn.
