David Draiman has always been a matter of discussion. For the one side, the pierced bold headed is the most interesting figure in the Nu Metal scene, for all others he's an arrogant loudmouth who takes himself too seriously. Nevertheless, Disturbed's new album, "Ten thousand fists" is especially one thing: the perfect symbiosis of the ultra heavy debut, "The sickness" and the poppy successor, "Believe". That means, gloomy and metallic but also with catchy melodies and - that's new - epic solos, some scream vocals Γ  la Halford and a lyrical side to it that you wouldn't have believed. "Deify", e.g. is the stretched middle finger towards George W. Bush ("the worst that could happen to America"), while "Son of a plunder" criticizes the punk pop newcomers ("colourful hairs, no balls"). And the rest? Ten cultivated hate balls in which David vomits himself out. Only weakness of the album: a superfluous cover of the Genesis-hit, "Land of confusion". Of course, with heavy guitars but still with the nerve-racking "ohoho"-chorus. Especially because David once promised to never use other people's songs again. "I lied. And if I have to I will do it again." Why not call him smart? (Marcel Anders - October 2005)
