Gloves
Gloves are primarily used to protect the hands from the freezing cold and rain. And let's be honest: especially in the UK, the changeable weather always hits and (unfortunately) you need warm gloves more often than fragrant sunscreen.
But who says that creativity should not be present in addition to pure functionality? For this reason, the EMP online shop has all sorts of unusual gloves ready for you. Do you want to carry your fan love around and show everyone? No problem, just browse through the shop and search for your favourite band, movie or TV series.
Where do the little mittens come from?
The oldest mention of these practical little weather helpers actually comes from the Bible. They are said to have been part of everyday life around 3,000 years ago. However, this does not mean the everyday life of ordinary people: Egyptians, Persians and other people saw gloves as special jewelry for kings. The Romans also shared this opinion, however, their fingers were exposed - probably the reason why Obelix thought they were a bit crazy.
More stories about the practical gloves
Some rulers also developed a great passion for collecting: When the British Egyptologist Howard Carter discovered and opened the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in 1922, he actually found 27 pairs of leather gloves in it. Not bad, Mr. Pharaoh.
It goes without saying that such preferences did not generate enthusiasm everywhere. In ancient Rome the philosopher Gaius Musonius Rufus ranted that it would be disgraceful to pack his hands like this. Perhaps he was a fan of gladiatorial fights, where it was customary to rub the body with oil to slip out of your enemy's grip. Some gladiators therefore covered their hands with gloves to better hold on to their opponent.
