Tumba south of the Swedish capital Stockholm: The band, Amon Amarth was founded in 1992 by the two guitarists Anders Hansson and Olavi Mikkonen, as well as drummer Nico Kaukinen, bassist Ted Lundström and singer Johan Hegg.
Amon Amarth is named after the Mount of Fate from Tolkien's novel 'The Lord of the Ring'. The Scandinavian musicians offer Melodic Death Metal at its best.
What did the early beginnings look like?
Amon Amarth's predecessor was a and called Scum. At first they wanted to do a demo, but because of the poor sound quality, they abandoned this project, and the Scandinavian Vikings did not show the first musical signs of life until 1994.
A contract with the Pulverized Label in Singapore followed. They worked on the album 'Sorrow through the Nine Worlds', which was released in 1996, in Peter Tägtgren's Abyss Studio. In the summer of the same year, Martin Lopez joined and replaced Nico. Then Amon Amarth moved to Metal Blade Records. In the following years there were further changes of musicians, numerous tours and publications.
