I'm sure you know that punk rock developed as early as the mid-1970s. Out of a wave of discontent, young people were looking for a channel to express their frustration against the existing social and political structures. This also gave rise to the typical "punk look" - torn clothes, tattoos, piercings as well as colourful and flashy hairstyles.
Musically, punk rock has developed from rock music and has adopted some characteristics from it. For example, a punk band usually consists of one or two guitars, bass, drums and vocals. The vocals are rather rough and are accompanied by a high tempo of the music. The lyrics are confrontational, critical of society or are intended to convey political and philosophical content.
