In 1993, a group of high school friends started to make music together in a place where everything is hunky-dory and where everyone is rich and beautiful. That place is Vacaville, a small town in Northern California, where the four guys met and founded Papa Roach. And that's pretty much all there is to be said about the tiny town of Vacaville, everything else is about these talented young musicians. There's a lot we can say about them, and the buzz around them will probably never diminish!
The band's first steps
Jacoby Shaddix (vocalist), Jerry Horton (guitarist), Will James (bassist) and Dave Buckner (drummer) strongly oriented themselves on the Crossover giants of the early 90s. Sounds like those of Rage Against The Machine and Faith No More can be heard in their early songs. But what was the breakthrough for the boys? American radio editors tend to focus on unknown bands more than they do in other parts of the world, and so when a Californian DJ started to play the band's records here and there, the boys' career was off to an elegant start. Soon enough, they were touring with bands like Deftones and Fu Manchu. This step forward in the professional music industry forced bassist Will James to separate from the band due to his involvement in a church summer camp limiting the band's touring. He was replaced by 16-year old Tobin Esperance.
What was Papa Roach's next steps?
In 1996, the band headed into the studio to record "Old Friend From Young Years". The record was an instant hit on radio stations and talent scouts from large record companies started to pay attention to the boys. From that point, they started recording two albums per year.
It all came crashing down when they started recording "The Paramour Sessions" and "Metamorphosis" in an historic villa where HIM and Gwen Stefani have also recorded music. Nobody knew if the members were arguing or if something else happened, but what we do know is that Dave Buckner left the band and entered rehab, where he was to spend quite a while.

Papa Roach albums
Since releasing "Old Friends From Young Years", Papa Roach has been releasing album after album, each one of them unique. There's not one song that sounds even similar to another, and the same can be said for the album artwork, each one a piece of art in its own right!
One of our favourite albums is, of course, "Infest" with its incredible "Last Resort". With "Crooked Teeth", Papa Roach showed that nu metal is still very much alive in 2017. The album is a homage to the good old times and Papa Roach has a fresh, new and unique sound.
