What's the mauderers card about?
The marauders map is arguably one of the most magical pieces of writing in the world of TV and cinema. It can show all the activities that take place at Hogwarts. Accordingly, anyone who wants to know where Harry, Hermione and the others are currently staying only has to take a look at this document to find them. What is particularly practical in this context is that no corner of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is hidden from this special map. Even the many secret passages on the grounds become visible here. Playing hide-and-seek with someone who has this map up his sleeve is therefore quickly boring. The only exception: whoever enters the Room of Wishes actually becomes invisible to them. So there is obviously a loophole in every film. Incidentally, one of the most famous film quotes in the Harry Potter series ("I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." / "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." is linked to the marauders card. With these words it can be opened. The card is then deleted with "Misdeed committed. Quite simple really, isn't it? And that's exactly how the map became, over time, perhaps not a main character, but at least an element that plays an important role again and again in the Hogwarts universe.
The Harry Potter Marauder’s Map was created by Remus Lupin (Moony), Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail), Sirius Black (Padfoot), and James Potter (Prongs) while they were attending Hogwarts. Lore from the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling explains how the four created the map using the Homonculous Charm, a powerful and advanced charm that enchanted the map to track the movements of everyone in the castle. This clever little trick meant that people could keep tabs on whoever they needed to keep tabs on – whether that’s easily being able to find your friends or how to swiftly avoid those less friendly…
This came in handy when Harry came in to possession of the map, helping to uncover the mystery of how the supposedly dead Peter Pettigrew was still strolling the corridors of Hogwarts.
