by Markus Eck (08.04.2010) A reliable band in a more and more unreliable world - that's the impression you get here... What's more: Metsatöll are one of the most unique Pagan Folk Metal hordes ever. "Äio" is their fourth album - and dyed-in-the-wool fans of Eluveitie and Týr should listen extremely carefully to it. With "Äio", the Estonians (who have started their musical career in 1999) present us with a high-quality symbiosis of powerful Pagan Metal and wonderfully soulful folklore. This awesome record makes for a very enjoyable listening experience due to its authenticity, artistic passion, and the pursuit of catchiness and timelessness. The heroic and atmospheric clear vocals and the ceremonial choirs do both convince. Metsatöll take their time, delivering their brillant and versatile compositions in mid-tempo or a bit more sluggish, with the musicians also making good use of the Progressive canon.
