by Sonja Angerer (27.02.2008) What makes a Gothic-Prog-Metal-duo name an album like a one-hit wonder-dance floor band? Probably the same humour that shines through on the whole of the album. Founded as a project of Alexis Damien (Wormfood/Carneval) and Asphodel (Penumbra) under the name of "Esthete Piggie", Pin-Up Went Down breathes an incredible playfulness, pairing up with ideas as weird as irresistible that won't make your grin disappear from your face: in "Intrusion", the vocals sound like Pavlov's dog with a special dozes of helium, in "Esthete Piggie" like a mad Death-Metal-band with extremely bad mood. Even better is "Nearly dead bat make up": here, an old school Funk fan and a Speed Metal fan have a guitar battle and they both are far from sober. In "Cadavre exquis", a Jazz-inspired Bandeon-player joins them and so on: Cabaret cross country through the popular music history, yet always with a good portion of power. Irresistible!
