by Oliver Kube (12.07.2010) After the powerful epic opening instrumental (seven minutes long - and none of them boring!) "The gates of Manala", the Finnish cello ensemble changes the atmosphere with "End of me", featuring the first guest appearance: Gavin Rossdale, a perfect fit for the track’s grungey feel sings on this potential chart entry which is an epitome of the Scandinavians’ art and at the same time tailor-made for his voice. A similar case: heavily groovy, melancholic; and epic "Not strong enough" with Shinedown’s Brent Smith at the mike. "2010", supported by Slayer’s Dave Lombardo pummeling the skins, satisfies your need for speed and hefty stuff. By the way, this disc contains some of the heaviest moments ever in the history of Apocalyptica - among them brilliant "Bring them to light" (spiced with some dashes of Prog pepper and Thrash salt) featuring Gojira’s Joe Duplantier. But you’ll also get your fill of wonderfully relaxing moments with orchestral "Beautiful" or atmosperic "Sacra" - once again, the Finns deliver an excellent bag of ear candy. Enjoy!
