15.131Anubis Gate
by Jürgen Tschamler (12.07.2007) Since their 2004 debut album, the Danes are one of the most underrated and most unattended bands. I couldn't tell you the reasons for this. In my opinion, they do everything right that you can do right in such a difficult genre, like Progressive/Power Metal. The songs never sound overloaded but shift perfectly balanced between Power- and Prog-elements. The vocals are pleasantly heavy. By the way, singer Torben Askhol of the two predecessor-records has been replaced by no less than Jacob Hansen. Yes, exactly that Jacob Hansen that earned an excellent reputation as a producer. Vocally, the two only differ in nuances and the change is definitely no disadvantage. Musically, Anubis Gate set forth their known way, the album features genuine heavy riffs, beautiful multi-choir vocals and a powerful rhythm section. The combination of 80s-Metal with progressive 90s-parts of the epic kind is just wonderful.
