by Jürgen Tschamler (21.07.2008) The Oakland five pull out all the stops again with "Awaken the dreamers" - this secures them a lasting seat in the Metal establishment. ASP`s style, though, is not easily described: intricate song structures meet ultra brutal Metal- und Hardcore elements, plus all these Progressive and atmospheric parts which make their sound that mighty. The 11 tracks are incredibly energetic, and full of hate and monster riffs. "Awaken the dreamers" is ear candy for the Death Metal fan AND the Metalcore maniac. "Black gold reign", "From so far away", "Until the end" or "Memories of a glass sanctuary" - these are all killer songs. The titles are uncommonly simple - and ASP’s style has unmistakably been honed to the max: Hernan Hermida is almost bellowing his lungs out which leaves the whole thing leaning heavily towards the Death side.. The songs are relatively short, packed with brutal riffing and hit you with full force. Well, they say brevity is the soul of wit (and ASP, that is)!
