11.What if I knew
by Oliver Kube (13.04.2007) Why has it taken so long until Dinosaur Jr. were ready to return? "Bug" in 1988 was the last album of the legendary Alternative rockers in the original line-up because bass player, Lou Barlow split from the band after the tour founding Sebadoh. Now, Barlow, drummer Emmett Murphy and, of course, mastermind, J Mascis finally teamed up again to record eleven great, new songs. Among them, such extremely catchy compositions, like the obviously Neil Young-inspired "This is all I came to do" and the Hüsker Dü's heydays-like Barlow-songs, "Lightning bulb" and "Back to your heart" in a similar vein. After all, the high-energy Rock'n'Roll blasts in the likes of "Been there all the time" and "Pick me up" are dominating. The latter contains one of the best, longest, and beautifully most dissonant guitar solos in Mascis' career, who by the way, hasn't sung this powerful, an yet, emotional in years! "Beyond" is not only a rejuvenating album for the three veterans but also for their fans, guaranteed!
