10.To Mourn And Forever Wander Through..Forgotten Doorways
by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (24.07.2009) No cheesy intro, no long preludes: a hearty "alright", a Punk rhythm, and off they go! The band released their first two albums on D.R.I.βs Rotten Records, and youβll definitely find some affinity to them in these songs. Ok, Goatwhore are not into that total retro stuff ("Carving out the eyes of god", for example, is too close to modern, more technical US Death Metal), but they like to walk the well-trodden path of their musical idols Celtic Frost and extensively quote some 80s material. Their music reminds me of a time when Black, Death and Thrash werenβt separated from each other that strictly and had a lot of common ground, and the love story between Hardcore Punk and really fast Heavy Metal was still new, exciting and dangerous. Just the right thing for sweaty club shows - and the boys have already proven their quality on tour with Immolation and Melechesh. Hail the goat! Um, and thanks for the cool soli.
