by Matthias Mader (04.07.2007) On their second album, "Circle of demons", At All Cost presents a really tremendous conglomerate of old school Thrash/Death Metal and Rock. The opening title track stands for the rest of the eleven songs: the aggressive, basic Thrash-mood (that would also perfectly fit Kreator, too) is loosened up by melodic guitar solos and plenty of sound experiments. Especially the latter make At All Cost so unique. The defamiliarization of the voice (by a vocoder?) in songs like "Get down for the revolution" and "Ride through the storm" becomes an almost style-stamping element. But also for the rest on "Circle of demons", variation rules: "Let it rain (Blizzard of snakes)" with its classic guitar intro is almost pure, traditional Metal, while the almost eight-minute, final "Drugs" lives up to its title as a mixture of Emperor and Pink Floyd going quite far into psychedelic regions.
