by Markus Wosgien (05.04.2007) The South Tyrolean Graveworm has become an established institution in the Dark Metal genre over the years. With their last neck killer, "(N)Utopia", they already introduced their turn away from classic Gothic Metal towards both heavier and more modern sounds. "Colateral defect" goes another step forward and literally blows you against the wall. Again procuced by Andy Classen, Graveworm musically present a heavy mixture of Arch Enemy, Kataklysm and Cradle Of Filth-like sounds without denying their roots. Great melodies, heavy riffs and the unmistakable voice of Stefan Fiori once more provide a hell-like thunderstorm. Songs, like "Bloodwork, "Touch of hate" and "Suicide code" are pure aggression, while "Fragile side", featuring guest vocalist Matze (The Sorrow), rather tends towards the Soilwork-corner. Topping on the ice for this deep, black banquet is the final cover-version of the Bonnie Tyler evergreen, "I need a hero".
