by Sonja Angerer (18.07.2008) The name’s the motto: "Conquer", the sixth album of ex-Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera is the most Metal-laden he has released so far. This time, the focus is not on the typical polyrhythms, but on Mark Rizzos speed guitar flak attacks. The opener "Blood fire war hate" with David Vincent (Morbid Angel) is pure dynamite - and anger management therapists would rejoice if they heard Cavalera and Dave Peters (Throwdown) scream and roar on "Unleash" (Phil Anselmo would have applauded, too). When you hear tracks like "Enemy ghost" and "Rough", it’s like you’re on a bloody battlefield, surrounded by scarred warriors... Among the few calmer moments: the tribal outro "For those about to rot", impressions from a Nile cruise - and it’s unexpected twists like this which turn the album into a masterpiece: Metal for fighters, with brains and a punch.
