Baest (the Danish word for ‘beast’) are a classic death metal quintet from Denmark who have only been active since 2015 and are the common musical denominator of Bloodbath, Dismember, Bolt Thrower and a bit of the 90s Morbid Angel. Mastered by Lawrence Mackrory (LIK, Firespawn, Decapitated), their debut album ‘Danse Macabre’ features blazing guitars in top Swedish style. The Boss HM-2 Pedal is miraculous, frontman Simon’s vocals are wonderfully deep and the songs are gripping yet diversified thanks to various atmospheric twists, furious blasts, excellent melodies and steamrolling passages. In short: Not one death metal fan should miss out on these red-hot newcomers! Baest are also just as explosive on stage. Guitarists Svend and Lasse and bassist Matthias headbang so hard it’s a wonder their heads stay on, and vocalist Simon delivers a thrilling, manic performance. The band have already played at Roskilde, Copenhell and Eurosonic, and have supported the bands Hatebreed, Dying Fetus, Entombed A.D. and Illdisposed. Baest stunned audiences for the first time in 2018 at Summer Breeze, and the troupe is currently working on more tour plans to play ‘Danse Macabre’ for the masses. “This is timeless death metal,” Baest say regarding their 33-minute debut release – and they’re damn right!
