by Adam Weishaupt (03.02.2009) The Scandinavian Doom legend hasn’t only coped with the exchange of singers - due to it, they apparently also got some second wind and surpass themselves once again. Solitude Aeturnus mike man Robert Lowe is a perfect successor of Messiah Marcolin - to chose him has been a wise move. "Death magic doom" carries on with the tradition of "King of the grey islands" and "Lucifer rising" (this MCD was released a couple of months ago ): it is overwhelmingly heavy. The speedy opener "If I ever die" starts it all off before the band struts all their stuff on "Hammer of doom". One highlight is followed by the next: "The bleeding baroness" bristles with intensity, and pumping "House of thousand voices" gets you finally down on your knees to worship the gods of Doom. "Death magic doom" is simply terrific and has to be ranked among such classics as "Nightfall" or "Epicus doomicus metallicus". Every single note hits the point, is drenched with sadness, melancholy and total devotion.
