by Jürgen Tschamler (04/01) The opener "Metal is forever" leads the way into this new Primal Fear album "Devil's ground" and it shows that the band has again been capable of improving which wasn't easy because records like e.g. "Horrorscope" or "Jaws of death" were incredible albums allready. The mentioned song will be one of the big moments in the upcoming Primal Fear live-shows. The up-tempo track has an excellent riff and siren-like vocals by Ralf Scheepers. The pumping "Suicide & mania", the driving Speed-hammer "Sea of flames" or the "Painkiller"-like "Sacred illusion" bear no flaws - this is Metal on highest level. "Soulchaser" tempo-wise is one of the most variable songs on "Devil's ground". "Wings of desire" has some Judas Priest moments in the beginning. In "Heart of a brave" the band pulls pulls out all the ì steps before the title track closes the album that offers pure Metal in every second. By the way, the limited European edition contains two 5.1 mixes of "Metal is forever" and "The healer"! (Jürgen Tschamler - 04/01)
