11.I Know My Love Can Never Reach You
by Sonja Angerer (29.09.2007) After his departure from the band Malice Mizer in 1999, Gackt is a superstar all over Asia. No wonder that "Diabolos", released in Japan already two years ago, by the way, features all trademarks of a Stadium Rock production: ultra phat sounds, singalong refrains, catchy melodies. This is big business – in the positive sense. After the fragile intro, "Misty", "Farewell" kicks off: the dramatic hymn provides first goose flesh on this album bursting with emotional moments. In "Metamorphose", e.g. the rousing chorus lifts from a calm, reduced verse. "Black stone" rocks from the beginning on, this uptempo track invites you to dance, run and speed it up. "Storm" is of a similar kind, yet, for a Gackt-CD unusually happy, featuring some shining Synth parts. A ballad is the perfect closing track of this premier league album that is as epic as variable – "Diabolos" is a must-have for all J-Rock-fans.
