by Meeri Koskialho (04.07.2007) In 25 years the German guitarist has never denied his musical influences, now he pays tribute to them on this cover album. And among the ten tracks, there is some a surprise. First of all, there is not a single Blackmore-song, instead you get some less known classics like the opener, "Warrior" (Riot), "Rock the nation" (Ronnie Montrose) and a both excellent and unique version of "Love gun" (Kiss), with which he pays tribute to the Hardrock genre. At the same time he also plays some Rock tracks, such as U2's "Beautiful day" and "In the air tonight" (Phil Collins) which are equally well done. The team that A.R.P. has worked with is well known and proven. Especially singer Johnny Gioeli has a true Rock voice and uniquely stamps the songs. But also Pell's guitars are unmistakably good. "Diamonds unlocked" is a great album that, of course, lifts from Pell's solo albums already by the fact that the song writing is not the master's. But the songs are well chosen and excellently performed.
