by Jürgen Tschamler (18.12.2006) No need to introduce Tankard: the German Thrash originals around cult frontman Gerre are known to everybody. Since the band has become more and more successful again over the last years, the request has risen for their early material that vanished and was sold out completely. Consequently, it was decided to re-release "Disco destroyer" (1998) and "Kings of beer" (2000). Especially "Kings of beer" contains some immortal classics, such as "Flirtin' with desaster", "Hot dog inferno", "Hell bent for Jesus" or the title track, "Kings of beer". Bonus of the new edition is the Metallica cover version, "Damage Inc."! Classic! "Disco destroyer" from 1998 was not as strong I have to honestly say. Still, "Death by whips", "Mr. Superlover" or "Another perfect day" (no Motörhead cover!) are very well done and entertaining. On backing vocals you encounter the two Paragons, Martin and Markus. Bonus track on this one is Manowar's "Fast taker" raped by Tankard, of course. Unfortunately, I can't say much about the cover artwork and to which extent this was possibly reworked, too.
