by Jürgen Tschamler (04/99) Staind are supposed to be the next fat stomper from the USA. Authentic, fresh, they're following no trend but still sound modern. The guitar based outbreaks of rage supplement themselves perfectly with depressive, acoustic passages during which Aaron Lewis presents his whole potential as a singer. Already the opener "Suffocate" presents the band far from trendy and rather innovative wereas the guitar draws all the attention towards it. Those who like the Deftones or Korn won't have a problem with Staind. The most intense song on "Dysfunction" is "Crawl" with it's ripping, mean riff. Staind offer a great debut. (Jürgen Tschamler)
