Cathedral have never really defined their music. They started as a Doom Metal formation that on their debut "Forest of equilibrium" showed some references to Napalm Death. In the last ten years, chief Lee Dorrian has lead the band with foresight to the regions of Stoner Rock and 70's flair. Consequently, "Endtyme" has become a powerful Metal-opus with numerous Black Sabbath-riffs that either reminds of "War pigs" ("Requiem for the sun") or in straight moments shows parallels to Dave Wyndorf's Monster Magnet ("Whores of oblivion") or to the early Kyuss. Generally spoken, however, Cathedral stand on their own feet. Sometimes, the cymbals clatter endlessly, the guitars are tuned underground-low or the songs are played in slow-motion-like manner. Don't look for commercial agreements here, Dorrian is just not that type of guy. Like in the past, especially liek on their 1996-opus "Supernatural birth machine", this band builds up high walls of menacing moods and remains above all one thing: supercool!
