Excellent Service

Almost ten years after their first demo these Fins show that there's a lot of power for new stuff and freshness in Gothic Metal - "Fatal Design" even convinced some gloomy Rock haters that also in this genre there's a lot to discover.

by Sonja Angerer (29.09.2006) Almost ten years after their first demo, the Finns show that there is a lot of power for new and fresh things in Gothic Metal: "Surrender" surprises with modern, very catchy Pop/Rock, "My Serenety" with strangely weird verses à la Live. They even skilfully managed to escape the cliché alarm for ballads with "Oblivion": between finest desert dust, Seattle coolness and epic lyrics you find the drama. Still, also if you prefer more action, this is for you: "Twisted" almost appears Punk like, in the angry "Out of you" unusual keyboard passages are just fascinating. "Curtained life" has something of a soundtrack, while the atmosphere in "Chameleon halo" reminds me of Tiamat. Of all the songs, the title track is closest to what you would define as current Gothic Metal productions, still also here, the six piece band keeps up the uniqueness by a sensible intro and Mika's variable vocals. "Fatal design" is the best Entwine album so far, even suitable to convince Gothic haters that there is a lot to discover in this genre, too.
