    Die for metal (Bonustrack)

by Markus Wosgien (18.01.2007) On their long-awaited new opus Manowar impressively underpin that Heavy Metal and Classic stand in close relation to each other. "Gods of war" is a tribute to the God of War: Odin. The kings of Metal lead us back into a time of myths, sagas and legends. The structure of this album resembles a concept album or a film-epic. It is Heavy Metal, and yet, it is far more than that. It's a spectacle, an unbelievably expensive production as only Manowar are capable of presenting it. It features some new versions of the already published hymns such as "Odin", "King of Kings" and the epic title track, "Gods of war". Intros and spoken words function as intermezzos, like e.g. "The blood of Odin", where you find yourself in the midst of a powerful ritual. Eric Adams is at his best again and permanently provides you with shivers down the spine in the numerous hymns such as "Army of the dead". "Gods of war" is majestic, magic and an orchestral work of genius. The album is being released in a jewel case, as a double LP and as a limited Special Edition in black leather, including a bonus DVD, featuring some insights into the work in the studio, behind the scenes as well as many interviews.
