by Markus Wosgien (15.01.2007) Drone is the winner of the 2006-"Metal Battle Contest" on the Wacken Open Air, following the gifted Gorilla Monsoon (2005). Eleven songs were battered down for the debut album convincing by innovative ideas, a lot of variation and a very unique sound. Stylistically, they settle somewhere between Fear Factory, Machine Head and Pantera, but it's the many neat details that make Drone something special. They roam the Metalcore as well as the Death Metal genres and mix everything through the mincer. Sometimes with clear vocals, sometimes with roars, whatever the vocal chords provide. Regarding their young age, Drone is very experienced and don't have to fear any international comparison. Beside the eleven killers, the album also contains the two video clips for "Theopractical" and the mega song "Welcome to the pit". "Head-on collision" is a great album, powerfully produced and full of jewels improving with every listening. Respect!
