Excellent Service

The year 1985 marked the debut of the Hamburg speed/thrash metal legends Iron Angel with their album 'Hellish Crossfire'. The young band had already made a name for themselves the year before with three great demos, and were already considered one of Germany's most promising new bands by the major metal magazines. Their debut album 'Hellish Crossfire' was recorded with a lot of enthusiasm, as singer Dirk Schröder recalls: 'The fans and the press were full of praise. It was amazing for a newcomer band like us to sell 26,000 copies in Germany alone!' 'Hellish Crossfire' was recorded in Berlin with Horst Müller, who had made a name for himself as a producer of cult classics such as Running Wild's 'Gates to Purgatory', Kreator's 'Endless Pain', and Celtic Frost's 'Morbid Tales'. Iron Angel never fit into any specific genre and with their debut, they offered a successful mixture of speed and Heavy Metal that carved out their own territory: somewhere between Running Wild, Accept, and Grave Digger on one side, and Artillery and Destruction on the other. And let's not forget Dirk Schröder's voice, which is one of the special trademarks of this strong, promising debut. This album put a small backyard band from Hamburg on the stage with King Diamond. Give it a listen!
