You just can't get enough of the sporadic clean vocals on the title track, as together with the hard-pounding rhythm and heroic choir, they tastily reinforce the obvious Bathory influences even more .Once again, the music of Thyrfing is accessible, but never superficial.

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (29.10.2008) When Jens Ryden joined the band, people were surprised - the ex-singer of Naglfar had moved from North Sweden to Stockholm because he wanted to focus on his studies. And with his one-man project Profundi, he was leaning even more towards a more brutal, more Black Metal-orientated direction than his ex-band. But that hasn’t affected Thyrfing much: you can easily hear that on the first two of the altogether seven very long compositions. "En sista litaneia" and "Fran stormens öga" are sedate and melodious, just the lead vocals are raspier than usual. The choirs sometimes remind you of "Twilight of the gods" by master Quorthon. "Isolation" fakes a Black Metal attack - and becomes, after some twists and turns, the catchiest and most epic new track. On their last two albums, the band has already distanced itself from the old drinking anthems - like Einherjer (welcome back) on "Blot", the Swedes have reached maturity.
