by Olaf Plotke (03.04.2007) The fans had to wait nine years for a new album from Night Ranger. And the band who sold more than 16 million records in the '80s has successfully reached the 21st century for "Hole in the sun" is a fascinating tightrope walk between traditional and modern Melodic Hardrock. And the surprise is a good one: in the opener, "Tell your vision", e.g., the playful beginning is suddenly set forth in a blasting guitar riff that immediately catapults the song into another mood. Still, the band also repeatedly manages to put a melodic chorus on a driving forward rock song in an astonishing way. More than 53 minutes of highest level Rock music (with some slight Punk- and Grunge influences). And alone "There is life" is such a wonderful power ballad all work for this album was worth for.
