Excellent Service

Very active, these Prog-veterans: next to the current re-foundation of Asia keyboarder Geoff Downes and singer/bassplayer John Wetton also had time to record their third, with bombastic hymnes filled Melodic Rock-CD.

    Peace in our time

by Oliver Kube (20.04.2009) Asia reunited in 2006 and started a worldwide tour and recording activities, John Wetton (King Crimson, Uriah Heep etc.) underwent heart surgery - but hey, they still had the time to release this! The third studio collaboration under the flag of Icon with his old mate, Asia's mastermind and ex-Yes-keyboardist Geoff Downes contains eleven epic anthems, "Sex, power and money" being the one coming closest to Rock. Apart from the lengthy instrumental "Anna’s kiss" (featuring Swiss New Age harpist Andreas Vollenweider), the progressive elements are not very prominent here, the album leans heavily towards Soft and Melodic Rock. Which is quite enticing, especially when pros such as guitar man Dave Kilminster (a member of Keith Emerson's and Roger Waters’ solo bands) and acclaimed Pop and Classic Music cellist Hugh McDowell are aboard. If you're not totally opposed to dreamy stuff or even a bit of kitsch - just try out these 70s/80s heroes.
