10.Overkill V... The Brand
by Riccardo Manazza (07.10.2007) For a good 25 years, Overkill has been the reliable companion for several generations of Metal fans. There has never been any big fluctuation in the high quality of their output (also if Blitz und Co. never reached their early classics, "Feel the fire" and the following "Taking over" again), nor in stylistic experiments (the Doomy "I hear black" from 1993 probably already marked the extreme). At the end of the day, the New Yorker Metallers by heart have never had the success of the leading names (Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth are still lonely at the top), still they have all the right in the world to call their new and fifteenth studio album "Immortalis". They have long made themselves immortal and the ten new songs can easily keep up with the standards of their pastime activities. In songs, like the catchy opener, "Devils in the mist", they act with controlled speed, Blitz’ voice is unmistakable as always (in height and phrasing) and with "Overkill V … The brand", they set forth a nice tradition.
