by Matthias Mader (20.01.2006) While at least in the live performances of the English veterans, such as the Cockney Rejects or The Business, you can see that the music is becoming more and more hardcore orientated, there seems to be a contrary trend in Germany. Back to the roots is the motto of most of the German Oi!- and street punk bands. Short, simple songs, a direct production, raw vocals and street lyrics. The Krawallbrüder fit exactly this scheme with their new album, “In dubio pro reo“. Featured are 10 exclusively singalong-compatible Oi! hymns marked by a Rock'n'Roll-like guitar lick and extremely harsh vocals. The attitude of “Für einen Freund“ reminds me a bit of the Berliner Troopers. Lyrically, you have the typical lyrics, except “Zweite Heimat“ - a declaration of love of a band from the west of Germany to the Eastern part - not quite everyday stuff.
