This is DARKANE's important second Album. After the debut Album 'Rusted angel', where DARKANE still didn't know how they wanted to sound, this time they had to develop a style. Christofer said in an interview in 2001: 'I like to write music that consists of technical, brutal parts that dissolve into a catchier chorus, where you can recover from all the difficult input'.
DARKANE wanted 'Insanity' to be faster and more melodic, simply more of everything compared to 'Rusted angel'. This time they also invited a larger choir and orchestra to record the intro ('Calamitas'), which was also meant to serve as an intro for future live shows. Lawrence Mackrory had left DARKANE after the recordings of 'Rusted angel' and four live shows, and his place was taken by Andreas Sydow. After five intense recording weeks at Dug Out Productions in Uppsala, Sweden, again with producer Daniel Bergstrand, the Album was finally finished. On the last night in the studio, lightning struck and destroyed the mixing desk. That's when DARKANE decided to name the Album 'Insanity'. After the release of 'Insanity', DARKANE played, among other things, their very first US performance at the Milwaukee Metal Fest XV.
