10.Communion (Excerpt) (Outro)
by Oliver Kirchner (September 2004) In 1992, when "Vikingligr vlendi" was released, it defined the Viking Metal genre. What followed were breathtaking records of the black metal heroes. "Frost", "Eld" or "Blodhemn" were on heavy rotation and shouldn't be missing in any good black metal collection. The last records that Enslaved have released, however, were rather experimental and evoked mixed emotions. On their new album, "Isa", the Norwegians go a bit back to their roots again: raw, atmospheric Black Metal. Predominantly in mid-tempo regions, with melodies that smash your brain and suffering vocals that leave you in despair. Aggressions raising the anger in your eyes. On "Isa", Enslaved got prominent assistance: Abbath (Immortal), Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone) and some others guest in the album. (Oliver Kirchner - September 2004)
