by Adam Weishaupt (24.07.2009) Germany's supposed to be the #1 beer drinking nation, but anyone who has already challenged an average Scandinavian recreational drinker knows who's #1 in that department... Korpiklaani have imbibed beer from their infancies, and, man, they know how to party. The opening track "Vodka" doesn't leave much room for interpretation - and is the first single taken from this album. The six blokes are really on the loose and plough merrily through their twelve new party songs, armed with accordion, mandolin, and fiddle. In comparison to their other albums, the sound on "Karkelo" is cleaner and therefore has more clout, making the songs much catchier. Often, you'll even be reminded of In Extremo ("Isku pitkästä valtiaalle") regarding style and music - which adds even more mass appeal. The most important factor, though, is fun, without any nastiness, yet with a minimum of sophistication. Cheers!
