    Ballad of Andrew

by Ralf Koch (14.11.2007) Can a voice be more suffering than that of Geoff Rickly in "A sketch for time's arrow"? This would even make a Robert "Cure" Smith faint. Only with the fine difference that Thursday musically leave no place for whining but simply blow away all upcoming depression with their great Core-hitters changing all melancholy into wild storms of excitement. After two major-deal records, Thursday are back at their old label partners, Victory Records, and even before the new album is finished, they release a collection of rarities, demos and three completely new songs. A quality difference can hardly be spotted, here, Thursday in their well known way mix melodious Rock and Emocore sounds for a great, intense brew; always provided with the adequate heaviness and energy. As if this wouldn't be enough, the New Jersey guys celebrate their Victory-comeback with an additional bonus DVD with live material, interviews, and behind-the-(tour/studio)-scenes material. A splendid package that you won't get by if you've ever had these guys on your list.

(Ralf Koch)

Somehow, it was clear to everybody that Thursday only belong to Victory Records, not a major label. The boys see it like that, too, so they celebrate their return with this superb CD & DVD package waiting for you from early November on. On the CD, you have twelve songs, including five completely new songs, rare demos, b-sides and unreleased live-material. For me, this is the ultimate mixture leaving nothing to be desired. Die-hard Thursday-fans may miss the nice cross-fading and the uniform sound like on the old records, but on the other side you get a nice overview on the band's career and some king of "Best of"-album! Additionally, the guys compiled a 90-minute DVD, too, featuring excerpts from their gig in the Starland Ballroom (December 2006) as well as plenty of bonus material, interviews, and tour stuff. This package is a must for all fans of these pioneers of the Emo-/Hardcore-genre.
