Now Axel Rudi Pell has discovered the Medieval: the intro on "Kings & Queens" introduces the theme with spinet and choirs. What follows on the next 55 minutes is Axel Rudi Pell at his best. The Medieval is only the thematic bridge the thread that runs through the album. But the music is purely Pell. There are hymns such as "Flyin' High", power songs like "Cold Heaven" and great ballads such as "Forever Angel". Just typical Pell. Together with his tested band colleagues Johnny Gioelli (vocals), Ferdy Doernberg (keyboards), Volker Krawczak (bass) and Mike Terrana (drums) the guitar magician again managed to present his very own style without repetitions. Maybe it's his ambition to produce the perfect Pell album. Maybe he'll never achieve that. But with "Kings & Queens" he has come very close. (Olaf Plotke - 04/01)
