by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (31.01.2008) Within the Black Metal collective, alternative music, Progressive and Folk can often be found in their purest form. Nucleus Torn only use their essences. First releases represented the development from the solo vehicle for concert guitar to a working band. "Nihil" finally was the beginning of an album trilogy, "Knell" is its centre. Already prior to this release, initiator, Fredy Schnyder described the continuation as monumental and threatening. Still, the relative silence remains his partner. Even if already in the first of the fourth chapters a storm breaks loose, it is still embedded in many moments of pausing in which the deep Folk-vocals of Maria D'Alessandro get lost. The imprint of Nucleus Torn is still subliminal kept alive. Patric Schaad's interpretations add a Metallic stamp to the heavy, sometimes fast "II" and the first quarter of "III" as counterparts. The Swiss reduced classic principles, such as Folk motives of Celtic and Far East nature to ghostly vibrations. They dare to be silent in a silent way.
