"Labyrinth" CD by Blutengel

by Sonja Angerer (26.09.2007) The first single, "Lucifer", had already announced it: in the good three years since their last full-length album, "Demon kiss", the trio has progressed without losing their roots. "Labyrinth" is perfect, bombastic and extremely catchy Dark Pop with so many fine details that it results in the tightness of a concept album. Like, e.g., in "Singing dead men" – in the chorus you have hidden chords that heavily remind me of the late Abba-song, "Lay all your love on me". In "When the rain is falling …" it's the use of the dentist-trephine-synths in the back that prevent the pathos becoming kitsch. "Engelsblut", an opulent, German duet, gains power and energy by the straight EBM beat without losing emotion. But it’s especially the relatively reduced songs, like "Body move", in which the complete range of the album is revealed: minimal, almost Industrial-like, they recorded a dancefloor hit that should stick long to the indie clubs.
