To keep insects away, the fields are moved with other plants to keep the pests away. For example, sunflowers are planted around the cotton fields in West Africa. These attract pests such as the cotton capsule beetle and thus prevent infestation of the cotton plants. In addition, the farmers practice crop rotation. This means that cotton is grown in alternation with other crops such as tomatoes or peppers, etc. This also serves to care for the soil and prevents the spread of pests and diseases.
