Lead Sails Paper Anchor is the fourth studio album by Atreyu. It had a significantly different sound to it than their previous albums, moving away from a metalcore-type sound, for the most part.

Lead sails (And a paper anchor)

by Yvonne Zymolka (28.09.2007) Since their 1998-debut, the guys from Orange County have regularly delivered finest Metalcore of the Westcoast-kind. After "A death grip on yesterday" had lacked the often praised uniqueness, album No. 4 returns to the old path and permanently serves in the sonic bag of tricks. "Falling down", e.g., first trumpets Hollywood-like only to fall into wild latex pants-guitar solos afterwards. "Becoming the bull" kicks off in best Gothenburg riff-manner but also plenty of Rock'n'Roll, like in "Blow", Indian flair mixed up with Flying Pickets-vocal lines, like in "Two become one", can be heard, as well as piano, Ska rhythms and even weird sound experiments with a saw, like in "Lose it" or Country-flair in the mid-tempo title track. That is crazy and everything but boring, yet with such a wide sound range you should clinch to the permanent chorus vocals and the beautiful Emo melodies in order to not become seasick.
