Secretly and still, Eisregen, initially still being smiled at, have developed into a firm size in the extreme Metal. At least in Germany where they have taken over the position of one of the leading bands. I cannot really speak of Black Metal, because seen closely, Eisregen have little in common with this genre, even if some people try to pigeonhole them there. Actually, I can't really categorize Eisregen at all anymore. They have broadened their horizon and included a variety of influences into their music. First it becomes mechanical ("Das Tor"), then we hear polka-influences ("Salz der Erde") and the guitars have been mixed into the background. Also in compositorical respect, they play a supporting tour and are basically used for rhythmical purposes or as a remedy for the song construction. Really melody-leading is the violin, consequently the general sound tends to have a folk touch. Of course, we have exceptions, like e.g. the heavy "Die Seele der Totgeburt". A good album that should extend the fan-base of the band. (Andreas Reissnauer - 01/00)
