Pretty much anybody who’s heard of Tito & Tarantula will know that they shot to fame when they appeared in the Robert Rodriguez cult film ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ (1996). The band’s first international success
occurred around this time and was recorded when they appeared at Germany’s Rockpalast music festival on 21 June 1998. They performed with violinist and mandolin player
Lyn Bertles and brought a simmering mixture of blues, rock and Americana to the table.
Their 2008 Rockpalast concert displayed Tito & Tarantula in more atmospheric surroundings: under dim, atmospheric lighting, the band played a sultry set of pieces from their then album ‘Back into Darkness’.
Their 2002 concert recording from Sarajevo is surely one of the band’s most unusual and is depicted as a bonus on the second DVD. The appearance was unusual, because the venue only had a capacity of 350 people and the vast number of potential spectators led organisers to move the show onto the streets – essentially leading to a spontaneous open-air concert for 5,000 people.
